What is placemaking?
The ability to work flexibly has become one of the key motivators for employees, setting companies a new challenge – how do they create a workplace where employees want to be?
Placemaking is essentially that – creating workplaces that connect people and anchor a brand. With flexible working and mobility touted as the biggest disruptor for how businesses operate leading up to 2020, it's important to consider the role that real estate can have on talent attraction, retention and performance.
The focus on competitive advantage has underpinned a major shift towards companies utilising brand storytelling through place, with this allowing staff to relate and connect meaningfully with their workplace. Effective placemaking expresses to people what a brand's identity means and allows staff to experience what the company achieves.
Connecting staff through food and hospitality facilities, creative and collaborative areas, embedding wellness into the company's culture using space and incorporating green space are all strategies that enable staff to respond positively to their workplace.
